Street Dance Help Needed!

Hey all! So our last (and some say best) PTO event of the year is in a few weeks- the Pinckney Street Dance – on Saturday, May 6th, from 5:30-7:30pm at East Heights. As usual, we need Pinckney Parent/Guardian Power to make these events go. I just signed up for a slot to help out and, if you have not already, I would ask that you consider helping as well! Feb. PTO Meeting


The February Pinckney PTO Meeting is this Monday, Feb. 13th at 5:30pm at East Heights, Rm. 28. Everyone is invited! Childcare is provided.

Really Big Sale Sat. Feb 18th

We’ll tell you a secret. In order to commemorate our new start at our revitalized school building next year, your Pinckney PTO is planning on providing a free “Back To The Future” (get it?) themed t-shirt to EVERY Pinckney student. The cost to do this is $1,000+. PTO earns ALL of our funding primarily through 2 events: running parking at the KU Rowing Regatta (Oct.) and our Really Big Sale (March.). We were lucky enough to get outside volunteers for parking, meaning we didn’t have to have Pinckney parent volunteers. But we don’t have outside volunteers for The Really Big Sale. This one is on us, so we need your help. Just 2 hours of your time on either Friday or Saturday. We’ve ONLY got 7 days left and lots of open slots. Thanks in advance!
Donations: Also, if you or anyone you kno w have items you would like to donate to the sale, here are the remaining drop-off times. The storage containers are behind the school at 1430 Haskell this year.

Oct. PTO Meeting

PTO Meeting Tonight (Monday, Oct. 10th., 5:30pm) at East Heights (in the Media Center in the mobile units behind the school). Childcare and snacks provided. Hope to see you there!

Fall Faculty/Staff Luncheon Coordinator

Parents! I wonder if anyone could help us out, please. We need someone to organize the Faculty/Staff Fall Luncheon on Thursday, Nov. 10th. You will have loads of help and access to the braintrust of someone who has organized it previously, but we just need one awesome person to take the helm of this important (and extremely popular) PTO event. Potluck 9/10 and PTO Meeting 9/12!

Back To School Potluck is tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 10th from 6-7:30pm at East Heights! Please bring a favorite dish to share with our community! Also, THANK YOU to everyone who stepped up to help us out in running this event- there is only one slot left to fill(!), if you or your spouse/significant other can swing it, please sign up at
Remember to stop by the PTO table to purchase your Pinckney t-shirts, stickers, license plates, etc!
Also, the first PTO Meeting of the year is this Monday, 9/12 at 5:30 at East Heights. Everyone is welcome and childcare and snacks will be available. Meetings generally last about 1 hr.

Potluck Is A’Comin!


This Saturday, from 6-7:30pm at East Heights, our Pinckney Elementary community is gathering for our annual Back To School Potluck. Every year everyone is really great about bringing a fantastic dish to share, so please do (remember to mark your dishes/utensils with name/phone #).

Meg Lyles is putting a lot of hard work into organizing this event and she could use a little help. Please visit this event’s Sign Up Genius at and see if you can’t pitch in a little to help make this event another success. Remember that our Pinckney PTO is “parent-powered” and every event we put on for the benefit our ourselves, our children and our staff needs all of us working together whenver we can. We do appreciate your help!


We have a few events on our calendar that are still looking for someone to step up and organize. I know I’ve been approached by many people, particularly those new to Pinckney, asking for ways they can become involved more with our school community. Taking on one of these events is a GREAT way to get involved in your child’s school, and we provide plenty of support.

Currently, we are looking for someone to organize both the Fall and Spring Staff Luncheon. Fall Staff Luncheon, is Thurs. Nov. 10th and Spring Staff Luncheon is Thurs. Feb. 23rd. Please contact us at if you would like to help out! Thanks!

Two IMPORTANT events this week!


“We hope your summer has been full of memories. It is hard to believe that it is already August and time to welcome our teachers back to school with a Red Carpet Welcome on August 12 at 7:30 am. Please help us to fill the sidewalk leading to the North entrance of Free State HS with a a crowd of students and parents and as many cheers as possible by letting your members know about the event and sharing our FaceBook event page:

Also, this year we will greet our teachers with messages from our parents sharing their hopes and dreams for their child for the school year, or simply thanking them for making a difference in the lives of our children. WE NEED YOUR HELP! Please ask your parents to write a message that we can share with our teachers and staff at this link:

We are expecting to greet over 1,800 (!) people on August 12 so we ask that everyone park at either Theatre Lawrence, Sprouts, or Walmart rather than in the Free State parking lot.

Got a rising kindergartener this year? Know someone who does? We are planning an informal get together for this year’s kindergarten class. Please join us for Popsicles and play time on Saturday, August 13th from 10-12 at East Heights. Drop in anytime- its a great chance to meet other families and let the kids get a lay of the land (or at least the playground).
