Really BIG Sale

It’s that time of  year!

Just think of a three hundred family garage sale, without the haggling over prices. Clothes, household items, toys, appliances, tools, furniture, and more!

February PTO Meeting Tonight!

Please join us for the February PTO Meeting at 5:30pm tonight, Monday, Feb. 8th, 2016 in the Pinckney Elementary Library. As always, EVERYONE is welcome to attend, snacks and childcare will be provided. The meetings generally last for 1hr.pto

Chili Tonight!

Tonight’s the night! The Pinckney Chili Feed & Used Book Fair starts at 5:30pm in the gym, everyone is welcome! Used books will be on sale from 5:30pm-7pm, chili eatin’ starts at 5:45pm, and don’t forget the potluck part of this event: feel free to bring a side dish to share! PTO will supply sour cream, fritos, crackers and shredded cheese. If you make a mean cornbread, bring it!

We’ve got probably over a dozen entrants in the Chili Contest (and more if you still want in!) If you wish to enter, all the entry details can be found here:

If you have already signed up to compete, please arrive with your chili by 5:45pm. We will be able to accommodate plugging in slow cookers. Judging starts at 5:45pm and winners should be announced between 6:15 and 6:30pm.

I do have one more spot for someone who could help out for 45 minutes helping us get samples to the judges, etc. If that could be you, please visit this sign-up:

Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

Pinckney Chili Feed and Used Book Fair

What you need to know:
The event is next Thursday, Jan. 21st, 5:30pm-7:30pm in the Pinckney Gym. Judging starts at 5:45pm, winners announced by 6:30pm. Book sale runs 5:30pm-7pm.

It’s a potluck event, so if you are not entering the Chili Contest (did we mention there is a contest?), please bring a dish to share. Mark those dishes and utensils so we can get them back to you, if left behind.

If you are entering a chili in any of the 3 categories (Traditional, Vegetarian, and Alternative), know two things:

1) Please sign up at this link (it’s not required to pre-register, you can show up with your entry but it gives us an idea of how many entrants to expect):,

2) You need to bring your A game. This competition is not for the faint of heart. It’s a throwdown. People cry. There’s a first aid tent. It’s serious. Don’t let it intimidate you. We want you there.

If you want to help out and can spare 45-60 minutes, (I only need to fill one more spot!), sign up here:

Pickney Science Fair tonight!

December PTO Meeting Minutes are up, up, UP!

PTO Meeting Tonight!

Pinckney PTO Meeting is TONIGHT, Monday, Dec. 14th, 5:30pm in the Pinckney Library! EVERYONE is invited, snacks and childcare will be provided, and the preliminary agenda is below!

The Latest Newsletter Just Went Out

The latest PTO email newsletter just went out, and is reproduced below. If you did not get it, and would like to be on our email list, email us at Here is what was sent out:

We should have sent this an hour ago, but we’re still reeling from that time change last weekend. But we’re going to make up for it with a newsletter that is chock-o-block full of the kind of PTO information that you can really sink your teeth into. There’s a lot here. Read in moderation.

Our next Pinckney PTO meeting is Monday, Nov. 9th at 5:30pm-6:30pm in the Pinckney Elementary Library. As usual, everyone is invited to attend and participate. Snacks and childcare will be provided. Hope to see you there!
It’s that time again to show our appreciation for all the great staff at Pinckney Elementary with our Fall Staff Luncheon. We are falling back on a favorite theme for some yummy Tex-Mex lunch for our great teachers and staff on Thursday, Nov. 12th. And here’s a tip: Quesadilla is not Spanish for “What’s the deal?”. Know that going in.
But we need your help! Please feel free to bring dishes that don’t need refrigeration any time. There will be a box in the school office for dropping off non-perishables until Wednesday evening. If you bring non-perishables on Thursday morning, please bring them directly to the art room. If you have something that needs to be chilled and can’t bring it around 10:00 Thursday morning, contact Lisa Gotto (785-218-1272) or Beth Whittaker (785-766-8765) and we’ll figure something out.

Can you help by bringing something? Click here to see what we need:

Big, big thanks to Beth and Lisa for organizing this! And thank you to everyone who has already signed up!
Please consider coming down on Sunday, Nov. 15th, from 1pm-3:30pm where we will spend a little time sprucing up the Pinckney Elementary grounds. We could use all the help we can get and it’s a great opportunity to be outdoors with your kids. A large group of people can go a even bigger amount of work in no time. No gardening expertise necessary. Bring pruning shears, loppers, wheelbarrows and leaf rakes if you can.

One of our favorite annual events is coming up, the Grandparents & Special Friends Luncheon on Tuesday, November 17, but we still have many (at least 100) lunches available, so please, if your child has a grandparent/special friend that they would like to invite to this awesome event, please turn in the RSVP form (the deadline has been extended). If you need a new form, here is the link:

We also need more volunteers to help at the Luncheon. Please consider helping out for this great event. The list of what we need is on Sign-Up Genius:
Thank you Jennifer Roth for organizing, and thanks to everyone who is already signed up to help out!
Our Box Tops shipment sent last week contained $597.10! Thank you to everyone in the school and greater community who donated Box Tops. The next shipment will be sent in at the end of February so please keep clipping! The holidays are a good time to collect them because Box Tops appear on many groceries we use around that time. Also, asking your family (especially grandparents) and co-workers to collect Box Tops for Pinckney is another good idea! If you are wondering what products feature Box Tops, please check out the website:

With the holidays right around the corner, we know a lot of people are already starting their gift buying. If you’ll be purchasing ANYTHING from, please consider using the link below- it won’t cost you any more, and your PTO will earn up to 6% on your purchase!

Donate for the JA Bowl-A-Thon

Several Pinckney staff members, and  our own PTO president Amy Mason, and dedicated friend of Pinckney, Marty Marsh, are planning to participate in the Junior Achievement Bowl-a-thon on October 16.  We are seeking donations that will help pay for teaching materials that local volunteers use in our schools.  Pinckney won first place in most donations collected last year (in our category) so we have a reputation to uphold.  A goal of $1000 has been set so please, if you are able, help us by donating to our fund using the website below.

Also, remember our ongoing grade level penny war from that ends Oct 15.   We would appreciate your support in any way you can!

Thank you,
Pinckney Bowlers
